Completed in 1976 and raised in 1989 and 2011, it impounds Advancetown Lake, the primary drinking water supply for the Gold Coast. The dam features a visitor interpretive centre, spillway viewing platform, walking and cycling trails, and picnic areas set within bushland surroundings.
