Khangchendzonga National Park
Khangchendzonga National Park is a large protected area in western and northern Sikkim, centered around Mount Khangchendzonga (8,586 m), India's highest peak. Established in 1977 and inscribed as India's first mixed UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016, it covers 1,784 sq km of mountains, glaciers, lakes and forests. Notable for exceptional biodiversity, altitudinal variation and sacred Himalayan landscapes, it is accessed primarily via Yuksom, the historic gateway for treks into the range.
