Ajanta Caves
The Ajanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments located in the Sahyadri hills of Maharashtra. Dating from the 2nd century BCE to the 6th century CE, they are renowned for masterpieces of ancient Indian art, including exquisite murals and sculptures depicting Jataka tales and Buddhist traditions. Excavated into a horseshoe-shaped cliff overlooking the Waghora River, the site represents significant achievements in Hinayana and Mahayana Buddhist architecture.
