Hanle Monastery
Hanle Monastery, also known as Hanle Gompa, is a 17th-century Tibetan Buddhist monastery perched on a hilltop overlooking Hanle village in the Changthang region of Leh district, Ladakh, at about 4,500 metres altitude. Built under King Sengge Namgyal and affiliated with the Drukpa Kagyu lineage, it is one of Ladakh's largest and most isolated monasteries. Notable for its traditional architecture, panoramic valley views, and proximity to the Indian Astronomical Observatory, it remains an active religious centre.
