About Zampa Gateway
Zampa Gateway is the historic main entrance to the fortified town of Diu in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Built during Portuguese rule, it served as the principal landward access through the town's outer fortifications. Notable for its massive stone structure, intricate carvings of lions, angels and a priest, and a small chapel on its roof, it remains a well-preserved example of Portuguese colonial military architecture and a prominent landmark for visitors entering Diu.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a large, reddish stone gateway forming the entry to old Diu town, flanked by high fort walls and bastions. The exterior facade features detailed carvings of lions, angels and a priest, while the interior passage leads through the fortified walls. On top of the gateway is a small chapel with an artificial waterfall feature. The site is an active thoroughfare surrounded by town streets, allowing close viewing of colonial-era stonework, ramparts and the historic town entrance.
