About Yarralumla Brickworks
The Yarralumla Brickworks is a former industrial brick manufacturing complex in the suburb of Yarralumla, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. Established in 1913 as the Commonwealth Brickworks, it supplied bricks for many of Canberra's early buildings including Old Parliament House. The site contains heritage-listed beehive kilns, chimneys, quarry and railway remnants and is recognized for its role in the construction of the national capital.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an historic industrial site set among bushland at the western edge of Yarralumla, dominated by four beehive kilns, tall brick chimneys, former quarry faces and remnants of narrow-gauge railway and machinery. The site is heritage-listed and has been largely closed to public access during ongoing conservation and redevelopment works. When accessible, viewing is typically from the perimeter or on occasional guided tours, with interpretive signage explaining the brick-making process and early Canberra history.
