About Wat Phra Ngam
Wat Phra Ngam is a ruined Buddhist temple in Khlong Sa Bua Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Ayutthaya, Thailand, just north of the Ayutthaya Historical Park island. It is best known for its iconic Time Gate, a former temple gateway enveloped by roots and branches of a large Bodhi tree. The site includes remains of an ordination hall, chedi and Buddha images reflecting Ayutthaya-period architecture and is a popular photography spot.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a small, atmospheric ruined temple compound set among trees and open ground outside the main historical park. The main focus is the Time Gate, an old brick arch completely embraced by Bodhi tree roots, forming a natural doorway. Beyond the gate are the low brick remains of the ubosot, scattered Buddha images, chedi bases and walls. The site is open-air, quiet compared to central Ayutthaya temples, and primarily for sightseeing, photography and short exploration on foot.
