Excavations by the Fine Arts Department uncovered temple foundations, Buddha images and ceramics that document the city's Buddhist and urban history before its decline and partial submergence near Kwan Phayao.

The museum serves as a cultural education center for the community, displaying sacred Buddha images and artifacts that illustrate traditional craftsmanship and Buddhist practices of the region.
