About Wamberal Lagoon Nature Reserve
Wamberal Lagoon Nature Reserve is a protected coastal lagoon and wetland on the New South Wales Central Coast at Wamberal, between Terrigal and Forresters Beach. Managed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, it conserves an intermittently closed coastal lagoon, fringing wetlands and surrounding woodland. Notable for birdlife, native flora and fauna, and its relatively undisturbed lagoon system, it provides opportunities for nature observation, walking and birdwatching in a suburban coastal setting.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a quiet coastal lagoon surrounded by wetlands, reed beds, paperbark woodland and sandy barrier dunes separating the lagoon from Wamberal Beach. The reserve is primarily for nature observation with informal walking tracks and bird hides around the lagoon margins. There are no developed picnic or beach facilities inside the reserve. The environment is natural and relatively undisturbed, with opportunities to see waterbirds, bush birds and native vegetation. Access is via residential streets at Wamberal and Forresters Beach.
