About Undara Volcanic National Park
Undara Volcanic National Park is a protected area in Far North Queensland, about 273 km southwest of Cairns in the Tablelands and Etheridge region. It protects one of the world's longest lava tube systems, formed about 190,000 years ago by an eruption of the Undara Crater. The park features extensive underground lava tubes, collapsed craters, savannah woodland and seasonal wildlife, and is accessed primarily via guided tours operated from the adjacent Undara Experience.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a remote savannah woodland landscape with open eucalypt forest, collapsed lava tube sections and large underground tunnels. Access inside the lava tubes is only with a licensed guided tour departing from Undara Experience. Tours explore well-preserved tubes with basalt walls, lava features and bat colonies. Above ground there are walking tracks, lookouts over craters and lava flows, wildlife viewing and camping facilities. The park is undeveloped and requires pre-booked tours for cave entry.
