Tuophema Village Museum

Tuophema Village Museum is an ethnographic museum located within the Touphema Tourist Village in Kohima District, Nagaland, about 41 km from Kohima. Developed by the Nagaland Tourism Department as a heritage village, it preserves and displays traditional Angami Naga culture. The museum houses artifacts, traditional attire, weapons, handicrafts and household items, offering insight into Naga tribal heritage and architecture.

Visitors can expect a recreated Naga heritage village set on a hillside with traditional Angami-style huts built on stilts with thatched roofs. The museum building displays tribal artifacts, wood carvings, traditional jewelry, weapons, textiles and everyday tools. Visitors can walk through the village complex, view traditional morungs, observe handicrafts, interact with local guides and experience Naga cultural demonstrations in a rural, forested setting.

Touphema Tourist Village was developed by the Government of Nagaland to preserve and promote Naga heritage, particularly that of the Angami tribe. The village museum was established to conserve traditional artifacts, tools, attire and architectural styles that reflect the historical lifestyle of Naga communities before modernization.

The museum and heritage village represent Angami Naga culture and broader Naga tribal traditions. It showcases traditional architecture, morung system, woodcraft, weaving, jewelry and customs, serving as a cultural preservation centre and an educational site for visitors to understand Naga community life, festivals and craftsmanship.
