History of Trinity Beach
Trinity Bay was named by Captain James Cook on Trinity Sunday in June 1770. The Trinity Beach area remained sparsely settled until the mid-20th century, with residential development expanding from the 1960s and 1970s as part of Cairns' Northern Beaches growth.
Culture & Context
The area lies within the traditional lands of the Djabugay people, including the Yirrganydji group, who have long cultural connections to the coastal lands and waters of Trinity Bay. The beach today is a community recreation area for residents and visitors.
