About Tribal Heritage Museum
The Tribal Heritage Museum in Munsiyari is a small private cultural museum established in 2000 by retired schoolteacher Dr. S.S. Pangti. Located in Nanasen village, it preserves artifacts and documents the traditional lifestyle of the Bhotiya community of the Johar Valley. The museum displays cooking utensils, ornaments, weapons, musical instruments, textiles, and photographs showcasing the disappearing tribal heritage of the Himalayan region.
Visitors guide
Visitors can explore a compact collection of authentic tribal artifacts including wooden wine bottles, cooking pots, yak-hide bags, brass hookahs, jewelry, weaving looms, and musical instruments. An audio guide provides running commentary through a public address system to help identify exhibits. The museum also features a large collection of photographs of Himalayan peaks visible from Munsiyari. A small shop sells local handicrafts such as Angora caps and sweaters at fixed prices.
