About Tree of Knowledge Memorial
The Tree of Knowledge Memorial in Barcaldine, Queensland, preserves the remains of a heritage-listed ghost gum (Corymbia aparrerinja) on Oak Street beside the Barcaldine Railway Station. The tree is notable as the meeting place for shearers during the 1891 shearers' strike, an event associated with the formation of the Australian Labor Party. After the tree was poisoned in 2006, a timber memorial structure was built to conserve its trunk.

Visitors can see the preserved trunk and branches of the original ghost gum enclosed within an award-winning timber structure designed to protect the remains. The memorial is located in a small paved plaza in front of the Barcaldine Railway Station with interpretive panels explaining the site's history, seating, and night lighting. The surrounding area is flat and open, with views of the heritage railway station and easy access to the adjacent Australian Workers Heritage Centre.
