About Tiagarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Museum
Tiagarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Museum is an Aboriginal cultural centre and museum located on Mersey Bluff at Devonport in north-west Tasmania. Established in 1976 to protect and interpret ancient Aboriginal rock engravings (petroglyphs) on the site, it displays artefacts, dioramas and interpretive exhibits on Tasmanian Aboriginal history and culture. Set within a coastal reserve overlooking Bass Strait, it is notable as one of few places where original petroglyphs can be viewed in situ alongside museum collections.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a small museum building with interpretive displays, artefacts, dioramas and information on Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and history, set on the Mersey Bluff headland overlooking Bass Strait. Outside, a short walking trail leads through coastal reserve to protected rock engravings (petroglyphs) preserved in situ, with replica shelters and information panels. The site combines indoor exhibits with an outdoor cultural landscape and coastal views.
