History of Thomson Nature Park
The site was home to Hainan Village, a kampong established in the 1930s by Hainanese immigrants along Old Upper Thomson Road. The village had houses, shops and a school and was inhabited until the 1980s when residents were resettled. Ruins of the settlement were conserved when the park was developed and are now interpreted along the heritage trail.
Culture & Context
The park preserves and interprets the heritage of a former rural kampong community, illustrating mid-20th century village life in Singapore through conserved ruins, former pathways and interpretive signage.
