The headland and offshore Seal Rocks have been known since early European sealing and maritime exploration in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Seal Rocks supported sealing activity and later became an important site for seal research and conservation. The area is now managed by Phillip Island Nature Parks for conservation and ecotourism.
Culture & Context
The area lies on the traditional lands of the Bunurong / Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. The coastal landscape holds cultural significance for its natural values and ongoing connection to Country, interpreted through Nature Parks education programs.
