History of Tasik Banding
Tasik Banding is the southern basin of Tasik Temenggor, formed in the 1970s after the completion of the Temenggor Dam on the Perak River for hydroelectric power generation. The impoundment flooded the upper Perak River valley, creating the large reservoir. The Banding area was subsequently developed as the access jetty and service centre for the Belum-Temengor forest complex and the East-West Highway crossing.
Culture & Context
The lake serves as the principal gateway to Royal Belum State Park and the Belum-Temengor rainforest, one of Peninsular Malaysia's oldest rainforests. The surrounding area is home to Orang Asli communities, notably Jahai and Temiar groups, and the lake is a focal point for eco-tourism, nature education and sustainable tourism initiatives in Perak.
