History of Tanjong Rhu Promenade
Tanjong Rhu means 'cape of casuarinas' in Malay, referring to the casuarina trees that once lined the cape. The area was formerly industrial and shipyard land along the Kallang Basin and Geylang River. From the 1990s it was redeveloped as part of the Kallang Riverside and Marina Reservoir waterfront plans, with the promenade and Tanjong Rhu Bridge creating a continuous recreational waterfront corridor.
