History of Takua Pa Old Town
Takua Pa prospered as a trading port and tin-mining centre from the late 19th to early 20th century. Wealth from tin attracted Chinese migrants and foreign traders, leading to construction of Sino-Portuguese shophouses and commercial buildings along Sri Takua Pa Road that still define the town's historic character.
Culture & Context
The old town reflects Peranakan Chinese-Thai heritage through its architecture, shrines, cuisine and community traditions. Conservation of shophouses and the Sunday Walking Street demonstrate local efforts to preserve cultural identity and promote heritage tourism in Phang Nga Province.
