History of Sunshine Beach
Sunshine Beach developed as a residential and holiday subdivision from the 1960s south of Noosa Heads, growing alongside Noosa's emergence as a coastal tourism destination. The adjoining headland is part of Noosa National Park, declared in 1939, which has protected the coastal landscape. The area lies within the traditional lands of the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) people.
Culture & Context
The beach is located on Kabi Kabi Country and is valued as a community and recreational beach for residents and visitors. The Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club, established to provide volunteer surf patrols, is a central community institution for beach safety and surf culture.
