History of Sula Vineyards
Founded in 1999 by Rajeev Samant, Sula Vineyards pioneered modern winemaking in the Nashik region. It was the first Indian winery featured in Wine Spectator magazine in 2002 and introduced varietals like Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Zinfandel to India. The estate has grown from a 35-acre site to over 3000 acres, establishing Nashik as India's premier wine region.
Culture & Context
Sula Vineyards is credited with launching wine tourism in India and transforming Nashik into the country's wine capital. Named after founder Rajeev Samant's mother Sulabha, it hosts SulaFest, an annual music and wine festival. The winery supports local communities through employment and promotes sustainable agriculture in the region.
