History of St. Joseph Cathedral
The parish traces its origins to a Dominican mission established in the early 18th century, with Balanga as a visita of Abucay and later an independent parish. The early church was built by Dominican missionaries. The structure was damaged during World War II and subsequently rebuilt and renovated. On 17 March 1975, with the creation of the Diocese of Balanga, the parish church was elevated to a cathedral.
