About Spray Tunnel
Spray Tunnel is a 100-metre-long historic mining tunnel located about 5 kilometres south of Zeehan on Tasmania's West Coast. Hand-cut through a hillside in the early 1900s to carry a tramway serving the Spray Silver Mine, it is now a free public attraction. The unlined tunnel passes through rainforest and is known for its dark interior, glow-worms, and preserved mining heritage within the former mining landscape near Zeehan.

History of Spray Tunnel
Constructed in 1901-1904 by the Spray Silver Mining Company to carry a narrow-gauge tramway through a ridge to the Spray Silver Mine. The 100-metre tunnel was hand-hewn through rock and supported silver-lead mining operations during Zeehan's boom as one of Tasmania's major mining towns in the early 20th century. After mining declined and the tramway closed, the tunnel was retained as a heritage relic of West Coast mining infrastructure.
Culture & Context
Represents the mining heritage of Zeehan and Tasmania's West Coast, illustrating early 1900s tramway engineering and the importance of silver mining to the region's development. It is maintained as a community heritage landmark and interpretive site for visitors exploring the West Coast's mining history.
