Soreng Jhandi Dara

Soreng Jhandi Dara is a hilltop viewpoint located just above Soreng town in Soreng District, western Sikkim. Perched at an elevated ridge adorned with Buddhist prayer flags, it offers panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range, surrounding valleys and Soreng town. Popular for sunrise and sunset viewing, photography and short nature walks, the site is easily accessible by road and serves as a peaceful scenic stop for visitors exploring West Sikkim.

Visitors can expect a small open hilltop ridge marked by colourful Buddhist prayer flags and a viewpoint platform overlooking Soreng town and the Himalayan landscape. On clear days, panoramic views of Mount Kanchenjunga and surrounding valleys are visible. The setting is quiet and windy with forested slopes around. Visitors can walk a short uphill path to the top, take photographs, enjoy sunrise or sunset, and spend time at seating areas. There are no large structures, mainly the flag-adorned viewpoint and natural scenery.

Jhandi Dara translates to 'Flag Hill' (Jhandi = flag, Dara = ridge/hilltop), named for the tradition of hoisting prayer flags on the ridge. It has long served as a local landmark and viewpoint above Soreng town.

The site is adorned with Buddhist prayer flags (Lungta) reflecting Sikkimese Buddhist tradition where flags are believed to spread prayers and goodwill with the wind. It is a culturally familiar and auspicious local landmark for residents.
