About Som Tirtha
Som Tirtha is a sacred water tank located in Abhimanyupur village (formerly Amin) in Kurukshetra district, Haryana. It is one of the revered tirthas of the 48-Kos Kurukshetra pilgrimage circuit. The tirtha is associated with Som, the Moon God, and with the Mahabharata period. The site features a holy sarovar with ghats and adjacent shrines and attracts pilgrims especially on Somavati Amavasya for ritual bathing.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a tranquil sacred tank (sarovar) with stepped ghats, a small temple complex and open surroundings in a rural village setting. The water body is used for ritual bathing and prayers. The area is quiet on regular days with pilgrims performing parikrama and offering prayers, and more crowded during Somavati Amavasya and other bathing festivals. Basic pathways around the tank allow for circumambulation and photography.
