History of Sirindhorn Museum
The museum originates from the 1994 discovery of sauropod fossils at Phu Kum Khao, later identified as Phuwiangosaurus sirindhornae. The site yielded one of Thailand's most concentrated dinosaur bonebeds. The Department of Mineral Resources developed the area as a research and exhibition center, named with permission after Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and officially opened as Sirindhorn Museum in 2008.
Culture & Context
Named in honor of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the museum serves as Thailand's principal center for dinosaur research and public education in paleontology and geology. It promotes scientific learning and conservation of natural heritage for local communities and visitors.
