Siniawan Night Market

Siniawan Night Market is a popular weekend night market held along the heritage street of Siniawan Old Town in Bau District, Sarawak, about 26 km from Kuching. Operating on Friday to Sunday evenings, it transforms the century-old wooden shophouses into a vibrant food and cultural bazaar. Known for its diverse local street food, handicrafts and community atmosphere, the market is a key attraction showcasing Bau's Hakka heritage and small-town charm.

Visitors can expect a lively open-air street market set along Siniawan's restored heritage shophouses with wooden facades and lantern lighting. The street is lined with food stalls offering Sarawakian, Chinese and Malay snacks, grilled meats, desserts and drinks, plus stalls selling handicrafts and souvenirs. Visitors can stroll the pedestrianized street, dine at communal tables, enjoy occasional cultural performances and experience the bustling evening atmosphere of the old town.

Siniawan Old Town was established in the early 1900s as a Hakka Chinese settlement serving the Bau gold mining area. The row of wooden shophouses along Jalan Siniawan reflects early 20th-century small-town architecture. The night market was revitalized around 2010 by the local community to preserve the heritage street and promote local economy and tourism.
