History of Siloso Beach
Siloso Beach lies adjacent to Fort Siloso, a 19th-century coastal fort built in the 1880s to defend Singapore's western approaches. The beach itself was developed as part of Sentosa Island's transformation from a military area into a leisure and resort destination from the 1970s onwards, with reclamation and landscaping creating the present sandy shoreline.
Culture & Context
As part of Sentosa, Singapore's primary island resort, Siloso Beach is a central venue for beach leisure culture, hosting beach sports, dining and entertainment events such as beach parties and festivals that reflect Singapore's contemporary resort and recreation culture.
