About Si Satchanalai Kiln Sites
The Si Satchanalai Kiln Sites are extensive ancient ceramic production sites located at Ban Ko Noi and Ban Pa Yang near Si Satchanalai Historical Park in Sukhothai Province. Dating from the 13th to 16th centuries during the Sukhothai period, the area contains over 200 excavated kilns that produced famed Sangkhalok and Sukhothai celadon wares for domestic use and export. The sites are part of the Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns UNESCO World Heritage property.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an open-air archaeological area with excavated earthen kilns, some preserved as cross-section pits showing firing chambers and chimneys, set among wooded mounds north of the walled historical park. A dedicated study and conservation centre displays ceramics, shards, wasters and models explaining kiln technology and firing processes. Paths connect multiple kiln mounds, with information panels and sheltered excavation pits. The setting is quiet and rural along the Yom River floodplain.
