History of Shani Shingnapur Temple
The temple's origin is linked to a legend where shepherds discovered a bleeding black stone in the Panasnala River after heavy rains. Lord Shani appeared in a dream instructing that the stone be installed under open sky without a roof. The site is considered a 'jagrut devasthan' (alive temple) and has been a center of worship since at least the beginning of Kali Yuga according to tradition. Women were granted entry to the inner sanctum in April 2016 following a Bombay High Court directive.
