History of Shalimar Bagh
Shalimar Bagh was developed in the early 20th century during the reign of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala (reigned 1877-1949). Inspired by the Mughal Shalimar Gardens of Lahore, it was created as part of the Maharaja's extensive beautification and town-planning projects that gave Kapurthala its distinctive French and Mughal architectural character.
