Science City, Kolkata

Science City, Kolkata is the largest science centre in the Indian subcontinent, located on J.B.S. Haldane Avenue in East Kolkata. Developed by the National Council of Science Museums under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, it was inaugurated on 1 July 1997. Spread over 49.6 acres, it features interactive galleries, Space Odyssey, Dynamotion, Evolution Park and outdoor Science Park for science education and popularization.

Visitors can expect a large campus with indoor galleries and extensive outdoor exhibits. Inside are interactive science galleries including Space Odyssey with Space Theatre, Dynamotion with hands-on physics exhibits, Evolution Park, Maritime Centre and Life Science corners. Outside is a Science Park with large-scale interactive installations, ropeway, time machine and butterfly enclave. The complex includes auditoriums, seminar halls, food court and picnic areas with guided science shows and 3D theatre presentations.

Inaugurated on 1 July 1997, Science City, Kolkata was developed jointly by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the Government of West Bengal. It was conceived as the largest science centre in the Indian subcontinent to promote scientific awareness, education and popularization of science among the public.

Serves as a major centre for science education and popularization in eastern India, hosting science exhibitions, educational programmes, science shows and awareness activities for students and families. It is a prominent recreational and learning destination in Kolkata.
