About Sandhan Valley
Sandhan Valley is a water-carved canyon located near Samrad village in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. Known as the Valley of Shadows due to its towering 200-foot basalt cliffs that block direct sunlight, it is a prominent adventure destination in the Sahyadri range. The valley features narrow gorges, natural water pools, and rocky terrain requiring trekking and rappelling. It is situated within the Bhandardara region and serves as a unique geological formation distinct from traditional hill treks.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a moderate-to-difficult canyon trek involving navigation through narrow rock passages, giant boulders, and shallow water pools. The experience includes rappelling down steep rock faces under expert supervision and walking through a deep gorge where sunlight is limited. Facilities are restricted to the base village of Samrad; the valley itself has no built amenities. Overnight camping under the stars is a common activity, offering dark skies for stargazing. The terrain is rugged and requires physical fitness and appropriate gear.
