History of Sabang Beach
Originally a small fishing village in Barangay Cabayugan, Sabang developed as a tourism hub after the establishment of Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park in 1971 and its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, later recognized as one of the New7Wonders of Nature in 2012.
Culture & Context
The Cabayugan area is traditionally associated with Tagbanua communities and coastal fishing livelihoods; today local community-based tourism services support visits to the national park.
