About RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility
The RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility is a museum and visitor attraction at Stokes Hill Wharf in Darwin City, Northern Territory. It combines the history of the Royal Flying Doctor Service with the story of the Bombing of Darwin on 19 February 1942. The facility uses interactive displays, holograms, virtual reality and a decommissioned RFDS aircraft to present medical aviation heritage and World War II history in central Darwin.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an indoor, air-conditioned facility on Stokes Hill Wharf with two main immersive experiences. One area covers the Royal Flying Doctor Service with holograms of founder Reverend John Flynn, historical displays, and a retired Pilatus PC-12 aircraft. The other presents the Bombing of Darwin Harbour through virtual reality, film and interactive exhibits. The visit is self-guided with staff assistance, includes short films and VR headsets, and is located alongside wharf dining and waterfront views.
