History of Rasikbil Wetland
Rasikbil is a natural oxbow lake formed by the shifting course of rivers in the Cooch Behar plains. Traditionally used by local communities for fishing, it was later taken up by the West Bengal Forest Department for conservation and eco-tourism development, including establishment of the mini zoo and crocodile rehabilitation centre.
Culture & Context
The wetland is valued locally as an important natural water body and seasonal habitat for migratory birds. It serves as an eco-tourism and environmental education site for the Cooch Behar region and supports awareness of wetland conservation.
