About Rancer Island
Rancer Island is the largest island in Pong Dam Lake (Maharana Pratap Sagar) within Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. Located inside the Pong Dam Wildlife Sanctuary and Ramsar wetland site, this relatively untouched island features grasslands, forest areas, and a forest rest house managed by the Forest Department. The island offers birdwatching opportunities, particularly for migratory birds during winter months, and serves as a peaceful retreat accessible only by boat.

Visitors can expect a serene, undeveloped natural environment with walking paths across grassland and forested areas. The island has no shops, cafes, or markets. A forest rest house provides basic accommodation. The main activities include birdwatching at marshy edges, photography of the surrounding water and Dhauladhar mountain range views, and experiencing the boat ride across the reservoir.
