Pulau Sibu

Pulau Sibu is a coastal island archipelago off the east coast of Johor in Mersing District, Malaysia, part of the Johor Marine Park. The group includes Pulau Sibu Besar, Sibu Tengah, Sibu Kukus and Sibu Hujung. Known for white sandy beaches, clear waters and fringing coral reefs, it is a popular ecotourism destination for snorkeling, diving and beach stays, accessible by boat from Tanjung Leman Jetty.

Visitors can expect a low-lying tropical island with long sandy beaches, clear shallow waters, coral reefs close to shore, and forested interior. The island has small fishing villages and beach resorts concentrated on the eastern and southern coasts. Areas to explore include beaches, snorkeling sites, dive spots, short jungle trails and village jetties. Facilities are resort-based with no large town centre, offering a quiet beach-island environment.

Pulau Sibu and its surrounding islands were gazetted as part of the Johor Marine Park in 1994 to protect coral reefs and marine biodiversity. The islands have historically supported traditional Malay fishing communities before developing into an ecotourism and resort destination.

The island maintains small Malay fishing villages alongside tourism resorts, reflecting coastal Johor island culture. Local communities are involved in fishing and tourism services, with village mosques and settlements preserving traditional island livelihoods.
