History of Prashar Lake
The lake is associated with Sage Prashar who is believed to have meditated here. The temple was built in the 13th-14th century by Raja Ban Sen of Mandi in honor of the sage. According to legend, the temple was constructed using a single deodar tree over 12 years. Mythology states that Bhima created the lake by striking the mountain with his elbow.
Culture & Context
The lake is considered sacred and is dedicated to Sage Prashar, the patron deity of the Mandi region. Locals believe their wishes are fulfilled by the blessings of the Rishi. The annual Saranauhali fair held in June attracts large numbers of devotees from Mandi and Kullu districts.
