About Point Lonsdale Lighthouse
Point Lonsdale Lighthouse is a heritage-listed coastal lighthouse at the tip of the Bellarine Peninsula in Point Lonsdale, Borough of Queenscliffe, Victoria. Built in 1902 to replace an earlier 1863 light, it marks the eastern entrance to The Rip, the narrow channel into Port Phillip Bay. The white concrete tower, signal station and foghorn buildings stand within a scenic reserve offering panoramic views of Bass Strait, Port Phillip Heads and the coastline.
Visitors guide
Visitors can explore the open Lighthouse Reserve surrounding the white concrete tower, signal station, foghorn shed and associated heritage buildings. The site is an exposed coastal headland with paved paths, lawns and lookouts offering panoramic views of Bass Strait, Port Phillip Heads, The Rip and passing ships. The lighthouse tower interior is generally closed and only accessible on occasional guided tours operated by the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum. The area is primarily for sightseeing, photography and coastal walking.
