History of Perch Dam
Constructed in the late 1950s as part of Punjab's small earthen dam programme on seasonal streams descending from the Shivalik Hills, Perch Dam was built to store monsoon runoff for irrigation, groundwater recharge and flood moderation in the semi-hilly tract of present-day Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district.
Culture & Context
The dam is locally valued as a community water resource and seasonal recreational spot for residents of Perch, Mohali and Chandigarh, commonly visited for picnics and nature outings rather than religious or ceremonial functions.
