The temples feature white marble shrines, carved pillars, and idols of Jain Tirthankaras set against forested hill slopes and plateau views. History of Pavagadh Jain Temples
The Jain temples on Pavagadh Hill were constructed between the 10th and 15th centuries, with major patronage during the Solanki and later Sultanate periods. The hill was an important fortified and religious centre, and the temples exhibit Nagara-style architecture with carved marble and sandstone. The group is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004 for its concentration of archaeological, historic and living cultural heritage.
Culture & Context
The temples are a revered Jain pilgrimage site, dedicated to Jain Tirthankaras, and remain an active place of worship. They reflect Jain religious architecture and traditions of pilgrimage to hilltop shrines. Located alongside the Kalika Mata Temple, the site demonstrates the long-standing coexistence of Jain and Hindu sacred traditions on Pavagadh Hill.
