About Patawalonga Lake
Patawalonga Lake is an artificial tidal lagoon and recreational waterway in Glenelg North within the City of Holdfast Bay, Adelaide, South Australia. Created by barraging the mouth of the Patawalonga Creek and Sturt River estuary, it extends inland from Glenelg Beach. The lake is notable for its rowing course, walking and cycling trails, and managed water system with a weir and lock to the sea, serving as a central open space for the Glenelg area.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a long, narrow urban lake separated from the sea by a weir and lock gates at Glenelg. Flat paved shared paths run along both banks for walking, jogging and cycling, with open grassed reserves, picnic areas and views across the water to moored boats and rowing crews. The setting is urban and park-like, bordered by residential areas, Adelphi Terrace and Tapleys Hill Road, with birdlife on the water and easy access to Glenelg Beach and foreshore at the southern end.
