About Pantai Sukamade
Pantai Sukamade is a secluded conservation beach located in Sarongan village, Pesanggaran, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, within Meru Betiri National Park. It is nationally notable as a primary nesting site for endangered green sea turtles. The beach is managed as a turtle conservation area where nesting and hatchling releases are monitored by park rangers.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a remote, undeveloped dark-sand beach bordered by dense lowland forest inside Meru Betiri National Park. Access is via rough tracks requiring a 4WD vehicle and park permit. The main experience is a guided night tour to observe female green turtles nesting and, seasonally, hatchling releases in the early morning. Facilities are basic with simple homestays and a ranger station. Swimming is generally not the focus due to strong currents and conservation status.
