History of Pantai Prigi
Pantai Prigi has long served as a traditional fishing base on the south coast of Java and developed into one of the main fishing ports in East Java with the establishment of Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara (PPN) Prigi and its fish auction facility, supporting the local fishing economy of Watulimo.
Culture & Context
The beach is associated with the annual Larung Sembonyo (Labuh Sembonyo) tradition, a sea-offering ceremony performed by local fishing communities to express gratitude for marine harvests and pray for safety at sea, featuring offerings floated into the bay.
