About Pantai Kukup
Pantai Kukup is a white-sand beach in Kemadang village, Tanjungsari, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Part of the southern karst coastline, it is known for a small coral islet connected to the shore by a footbridge, clear turquoise water and tide pools at low tide. The beach is a popular day-trip destination from Yogyakarta city, offering coastal scenery, seaweed farming views and access to neighboring Gunungkidul beaches.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a curved white-sand bay backed by karst hills with a small offshore coral islet accessible via a footbridge. At low tide, shallow lagoons and tide pools appear around coral formations. The beach area has food stalls, seating areas and viewing points on the islet. The sea is generally wavy with strong currents, so water activities are limited to wading and exploring tidal areas. The surroundings include fishing boats, seaweed cultivation plots and adjacent beaches along the Gunungkidul coast.
