About Pampore Saffron Fields
Pampore Saffron Fields are extensive agricultural fields located on the Karewa plateau in Pampore, Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, about 15 km southeast of Srinagar. Known as the Saffron Town of Kashmir, Pampore produces most of India's saffron. The fields are notable for their seasonal bloom of purple Crocus sativus flowers in late autumn, the traditional cultivation methods, and the GI-tagged Kashmiri saffron that is highly valued for its colour, aroma and quality.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect vast open fields on elevated Karewa soil stretching across the Pampore plateau along National Highway 44. During bloom season, the fields are covered with purple saffron flowers with orange-red stigmas. Outside bloom season, the fields appear as dry, tilled agricultural land. Visitors can walk along field bunds, observe farmers harvesting and drying saffron, photograph the landscape, and purchase saffron from local growers and shops lining the highway.
