History of Overbury's Folly
Named after E.N. Overbury, an English judge who served in Thalassery courts in the 1870s. He began construction of a picnic spot on the cliff in 1879 but could not complete it, leading to the name 'Folly'. The construction was later completed by Mukundan Malla, the Municipal Chairman of Thalassery, in the late nineteenth century. A watchtower was added in 1985 under the supervision of Sub Collector Amitabh Kant.
Culture & Context
The park is part of the Thalassery Heritage Tourism Circuit and represents British colonial heritage in the Malabar region. It serves as a popular social gathering place for locals and has become a favored location for wedding photography.
