About Old Halls Creek
Old Halls Creek is the abandoned original townsite of Halls Creek in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, located about 15 kilometres west of the present town. Established during Western Australia's first gold rush in 1885 after prospector Charlie Hall discovered gold, it was largely deserted by the early 1900s. Today the heritage-listed ghost town preserves stone ruins, old cemetery and interpretive signs amid arid outback landscape.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an open-air ghost town in arid outback bushland with scattered stone ruins, low walls, remnants of buildings and the old cemetery. The site is accessed via an unsealed road and explored on foot via informal tracks with interpretive signage explaining the gold rush history. There are no shops or staffed buildings; the setting is quiet, exposed and natural with spinifex, boab trees and rocky terrain.
